Land Use Practice Overview
Cerrell’s strategic approach to land use projects helps our clients successfully navigate the complex, and often political, entitlement process. We thoughtfully engage communities and opinion leaders to build consensus to provide decision-makers the support they need to approve our clients’ projects. Our land use team is composed of seasoned professionals who understand not only the technical entitlement process but also the specific community and political environment where a project is located. Our long-standing relationships with elected officials and community leaders throughout the Southern California region allow us to provide our clients with solution-oriented advice and the ability to effectively advocate on our clients’ behalf.
- Community Engagement & Coalition Building: Our grassroots outreach in communities includes engaging homeowner associations, neighborhood councils, residents, labor unions and a multitude of other stakeholders to garner support or minimize opposition to a project.
- Government Advocacy: Strong relationships with elected officials and their staff and other government officials are critical to successfully move a project forward in a timely fashion. We facilitate meetings with elected officials and advocate on our client’s behalf.
- Entitlement Counsel: During the site selection stage, we provide our clients with political and community assessments so they understand any challenges to receiving project approval. We also help our clients navigate the entitlement process from initiating project filing through public hearings.
- Media Relations: Interfacing with the media and utilizing social media tools is critical in the world of development. Cerrell has the expertise to engage the public and frame the discussion about a proposed project through local and national press outlets, and social media platforms.
