Joe Cerrell – Founder. Friend. Mentor. Icon.

Cerrell Associates’ formation began in late 1966, when Joe Cerrell began a transition from being one of the key campaign strategists and head of the California Democratic Party, to running his own consulting company that specialized in political campaign management and advised corporate clients about the intersection of public policy and politics.  Initially founded as Golden State Consultants by Joe, his wife Lee Cerrell and two partners, Cerrell Associates quickly became a dominate player in the burgeoning world of public affairs and received national acclamation for the firm’s ability to provide such services to corporations.

The firm’s first two corporate clients were Pacific Southwest Airlines (PSA) and Pacific Telephone, companies that remained part of the firm’s steady stable of clients for many years. From these humble beginnings until his death on December 3, 2010, Joe Cerrell provided strategic counsel and political consulting advice to clients and political candidates with issues impacting local, state, national and international politics.

Whether working for former Vice President Hubert H. Humphrey and then-Senator Al Gore, Jr. in their respective bids to become President of the United States, planning special events to host the National Conference of State Legislatures or advising corporations on issues of critical importance to their operational success, Joe brought a passion for strategic advice, detailed planning and a personal touch that left his mark on thousands.  Joe imparted this wisdom and philosophy on the firm and it remains in place today.
