Energy & Environment

With one of the nation’s largest energy and environmental public affairs practices, Cerrell Associates assists clients with community outreach, government relations, media relations and corporate communications needs for projects and companies focused in the energy and environmental sector.
What We Do:
Energy and environmental issues are some of the most challenging and complex issues facing businesses and government today. California’s regulatory and legislative mandates in the areas of air, water and land issues make working in the state more challenging than anywhere else in the country.
With one of the nation’s largest energy and environmental public affairs practices, Cerrell Associates assists clients with community outreach, government relations, media relations and corporate communications needs for projects and companies focused in the energy and environmental sector. Our efforts help obtain approval for new projects, remediate contaminated sites and position clients as environmental leaders for the 21st Century.
As California’s senior public affairs firm, we have worked on the most pressing environmental issues for more than 40 years. Our team possesses a deep understanding of sensitive environmental issues and the political, media and community impacts that often accompany these issues. Our team brings decades of hands-on experience to help our clients navigate through these difficult situations toward issue resolution and ultimately success.
Core Competencies:
Strategic Communications – we work with our clients to develop strategic plans that establish defined objectives and deliverables to track project efforts and measure success.
Technical Communications – each project we support starts with a technical foundation. Our experienced team can help take highly technical information and distill it into manageable messages that resonate with your core audiences. We work seamlessly with engineers and lawyers to provide a contextual framework for political communications while maintaining overall message consistency and technical accuracy.
Community Outreach – we work with clients to develop effective communications programs to educate and inform local communities and key stakeholders. Projects are rarely quick and easy. We have established an extensive network of relationships throughout the state and leverage these relationships to our clients’ advantage. We work with our clients to help them build relationships with key stakeholders and assist in developing relationships in order to facilitate successful project outcomes. We have managed community meetings with concerned stakeholders; facilitated controlled site tours; and developed efficient communication tools, including newsletters, websites, direct mail and other collateral material.
Media Relations – reaching a broad audience through focused media contact is one of the most important tactics for any project. Our experience with traditional media outlets allows us to conduct successful editorial board tours, write and place op-eds in multiple languages, coordinate television and talk radio interviews, act as campaign spokespeople and run high-intensity news conferences and media events. We integrate social media techniques into our media strategies to effectively communicate across multiple message platforms and reach a growing demographic of real-time reporters and bloggers. We know what the media wants and how to get a story covered. These skills also help us excel in crisis management, litigation support, brand and reputation management, and public education campaigns.
Corporate Social Responsibility – For many energy and environmental projects, companies are often lacking in relationships in the local community where they wish to operate. Without long-term relationships that demonstrate their commitment to the community, company projects often create more controversy and opponents that can doom these efforts. Firms need to demonstrate a desire to be a partner with new stakeholders. Our team is adept at creating social investment programs that allow companies to develop meaningful community involvement that establish a company’s commitment to the community and reputation as a trusted corporate citizen.
